费洛卡鲁斯为贵族工作。诺拉的保利努斯的富有的姻亲——西班牙人老梅兰尼娅在北非的一处地产上建了洗浴房，费洛卡鲁斯就曾为其撰写并镌刻了碑文。我们所习惯的罗马社会形象过于简单化，有些人物很难被归入其中，他是其中之一。他不属于贵族，也不仅仅是个工匠。就像阿兰·卡麦隆带着他标志性的良好判断力对费洛卡鲁斯的描写：“他出生于体面人家（虽然不是贵族），经济宽裕，只不过选择花时间在特别擅长的事情上。”[1]
