对汉语之美，认识如何，直接影响译文之质量。原译中的“潮气”、“支起”就不那么美。语感告诉我们：前者对人的感觉而言，似乎讨厌，译成“湿润空气”就变成了中性表达，而“支起”，则太单薄，乃undertranslation也。改译将原句中的一个名词barriers译成了“竹屏”，有创意焉。更值得一提的是，against time and the outside world被改译成“阻隔了时空，阻隔了外界”，且置于句末，有骈俪之美，更兼音韵之美。
