美丽与吸引力在心理学角度是复杂的课题，因为它们涵盖许多内容。相信读完本章的读者能够理解其中的复杂性。随着科研水平的上升，科学家们可以更好地理解美。就好比一开始高尔顿得用底片叠加理解平均性，之后的学者用早期的算法平均面孔会带来“磨皮特效”，时至今日，科学家在理解平均性与面孔的关系上游刃有余。也好比十余年前的学者探究激素与美的关系历经险阻，而现在价格便宜的激素测验足以解释激素对于面孔的影响。再往后，基因测序的方法没准儿会进入这个领域。

其实现在对于美丽的研究尚未深入，尤其是在大家都感兴趣的领域还缺乏足够的研究。我在此只提三点。第一，是性少数人群，Welling（韦林）和同事曾探究过不同性取向的人对于男女面孔的倾向；但是由于研究比较少，不足以形成观点。第二，是中老年人，心理学研究的局限有时候就在被试的年龄群体，大学生往往是研究的主题；但是中老年人占社会总人口比例越来越大，却没有相称的研究。本章也提到，中老年人对于审美的深层因素和年轻人有本质的区别；希望在未来能有更多研究让我们能够更好地理解我们的父母。第三，是妆容和保养品。随着越来越多的女性科学家进入科研领域，配上新的研究方法，化妆对于美貌的影响也在科学家的议事日程上。大家都知道化妆是个复杂的内容，先不说技术，不同的方法对于面孔都有影响，更不要说不同的化妆品、保养品对于面孔的影响，甚至长期化妆之后的影响还不甚明朗。希望在不久的将来，这些领域对于美的影响能逐渐清晰，也希望在那时我们可以更好地理解面孔传递的美。最后就是最大的挑战，吸引力与成为恋人还有一个巨大的鸿沟。按照我室友Alex的说法，他在地铁上能对无数女生倾心，可惜他依旧单身。吸引力的研究难免陷入过度解释和解释不足的境地，希望在未来，这一切都能用更好的模型涵盖。
