【解答】中文的“有”字，英文有许多译法，have 只是其中的一个译法，此外还有 there+be，contain，hold，possess，own，comprise，consist，keep 等等。问题中提出的句子，错在 have 一字，这时的“有”，不可译作 have，而应译作 there are 才对，全句应作：

这第三种含义及用法，和我们问题中的句子最为相近，因为它正是由 have 变成 there are 的。我们为什么不能说： The school has three thousand students，而一定要说 There are three thousand students in the school.呢？这牵涉到逻辑上的问题。第一，学校之于学生，不能说是“物质上的所有”，因为学生并不是学校的私有财产。其次，学校之于学生，更不是身心上所具有的，因为不是它身心上的特质。只有第三点的“构成上的含有”颇为相近，但仍是似是而非，因为学校是一个地点，一个机构，学校与学生的关系，不是不可分离的，例如假期中没有学生，学校仍然存在，不像一星期少了一天就不成，房间的窗子是构成房间的必要部分，不可分离的。至于 there+be 的原意是“存在”，存在于某处因而变成“有”的意思，学校既是一个地点，正好用得上这种“有”了。
