【解答】副词的 so 有时具有代名词的作用，它可以当作宾语而用在动词 say，tell，think，hope，expect，suppose，imagine，believe，fear，hear 等的后面，例如：

在动词 do 的后面也同样地可以接用 so 做宾语的，不过这是近乎文言的用法，即写作时用的英语（written English），在口语（spoken English）中这个副词用作代名词的 so 似乎已被 it 取而代之了。如说 He promised to do so.就近乎文言，口语便说成 He promised to do it.了。英文的 it 本来是 that，this 的代名词，所以有时不用 it。而用 that 或 this 也是很普通的。
