你知道“How are you doing？”的意思和用法吗？你可能知道，但也有可能不很清楚。十几年前，我在美国大学读书时，当第一次在学生宿舍的走廊里被这样的话语问及时，我却不知所措。刚到美国大学时，由于还没有找到合适的住房，我就先住在比较昂贵的学生宿舍里。美国的学生宿舍，其结构和中国学生宿舍差不多，每一层会有两排房间，中间是长长的走廊。与中国学生宿舍最大的不同点就是每间屋子住的人不多，最多能有三个人，大部分为两个人住一间。我是自己一人住一间。在我通过走廊走向自己房间的过程中，遇到的第一个困惑就是，许多迎面而来的学生都会向你说“How are you doing？”（而不是我们学的“How do you do？”）。尽管只是时态上发生了变化，却让我一时不知道该如何回应。因为我们在中国所受的教育就是，对陌生人用“How do you do？”熟悉的人则可以用“How are you？”。
