● 这几段又从梦想回到现实，而小说不快乐的结局也渐渐接近了。Mary在陶醉之中，觉得这样行船很可爱。Michael是否有和Mary同样的陶醉之感，我们不知道；因为这篇小说以Mary为主体，思想情感等，皆以Mary的观点为出发。但是从对白之中，我们可以看见：Mary所想的是缥缈仙乡之海，而Michael所想的是现实的五大洋。两种境界也许都是浪漫的，但是两人的想法不易接近。Mary发现两人虽相偎相依，然而是“同床异梦”：Michael有他自己的理想，并不能把全部精神贡献给她；所以她凛然惊觉地（with awe）说：“The wide ocean!”
