5月4日，星期五，亨利的舰队，由40艘舰船组成，悬挂着红色狮子和金色十字架的王室旗帜，终于出现在西边的海平面上。人们又重新生出希望来。亨利二世，虽然名义上是耶路撒冷王国的领主，实际上却毫无权力管束城内各派系之间永无休止的党争，但他还是受到了热烈的欢迎。大街小巷点起了篝火，连围城的敌军都能看到。人们纵情欢宴，教堂钟声响亮。国王年方二十且患有癫痫病，所以看起来是疾病拖延了他从法马古斯塔启程的脚步，但他还是带着所能招集的全部人马前来支援，还带来了尼科西亚（Nicosia）主教作为精神上的支持。他的部队总共只有一小部分骑士和步兵——总数最多700人——还不足以对力量的平衡做出实质性的改变。他评估了形势，为守军注入了新的活力，但是士气上的些许提升很快就被哈利勒的迅速反应给打消了。
